POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Environmental Engineer/Scientist directly supports the Environmental Management System Manager in the execution of UCOR's Environmental Sustainability program, specifically the development, monitoring, reporting, and improvement of climate resilience and adaption initiatives for continual improvement in sustainability performance.  The Environmental Engineer/Scientist is primarily responsible for contributing to the development of approaches that will be used to guide company decisions, processes, and activities toward a reduced carbon footprint and other improvements in environmental sustainability

 The Environmental Engineer/Scientist will:
•  Perform sustainability assessments of company processes and activities to characterize energy and water use and greenhouse gas emissions.
•  Accumulate and trend data on environmental indicators and performance related to sustainability and climate management.
•  Apply mathematical and engineering calculations to quantify the impact of company environmental aspects such as the production of greenhouse gas emissions.
•  Coordinate environmental data for reporting of environmental performance.
•  Work with the Supply Chain organization to identify opportunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
•   Develop cost savings analyses related to improved sustainability initiatives and innovations
•   Identify local climate projections using nationally recognized and DOE recommended climate data resources and characterize and recommend mitigative and adaptive measures to be implemented in response to potential future extreme climate events.
•  Participate in the planning, implementation, and closure of field projects to provide recommendations for improved sustainability; interact with other DOE site subject matter experts for benchmarking and reporting; and,
•  Work closely with the Pollution Prevention Coordinator to identify and innovative opportunities for continual improvement.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Environmental Engineering,
  • Experience acceptable in lieu of specific degrees,
  • Desired additional education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
NOTE: This is not an environmental compliance position.  Candidates must have experience with sustainability
  • 4 to 7 years of related experience required
  • Environmental sustainability or climate management experience required.
  • Experience using Greenhouse Gas Protocol required.
  • Certified Energy Manager a plus.
  • Ability to work in a diverse work environment, Pre-placement physical examination, which includes drug screening, and inclusion in random drug testing program.
  • Ability to fulfill and promote L&A core values.
