POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Electrical Safety Officer at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is responsible for overseeing the Electrical Safety Program, providing expertise in electrical safety, and serving as the primary contact for electrical safety-related concerns. This role involves providing electrical safety support to construction projects, working directly with project managers, craft, work planners, and field professionals to ensure effective implementation of electrical safe work practices, conducting incident investigations, leading safety assessments, and collaborating with various teams to ensure compliance with safety standards. The position requires advanced knowledge in electrical engineering and safety protocols, and candidates must have excellent communication, collaboration, leadership, and technical problem-solving skills.

·         Serve as the primary contact on electrical safety and administer the LANL Electrical Safety Program.

·         Act as a resource for LANL employees and managers regarding electrical safety concerns.

·         Conduct incident investigations and determine root causes, developing corrective actions as necessary.

·         Perform workplace condition inspections to identify electrical hazards in various environments.

·         Lead reviews of Integrated Work Documents (IWD) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.

·         Contribute to the development of codes, standards, and specifications for electrical equipment safety.

·         Provide advanced support to engineers/scientists in solving complex technical problems.

·         Participate in the evaluation of controlled items and services for compliance with electrical safety requirements.

·         Perform calculations to determine electrical severity scores for incidents.

·         Develop written electrical safety policies, procedures, and design standards.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

·         BS and 2 years of field experience (or equivalent combination of education and/or experience).

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

·         Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q level security clearance,

·         Previous experience in a CAT II Nuclear Facility,

·         Advanced knowledge of electrical safety standards including NFPA, IEEE, and OSHA, particularly NFPA 70E,

·         Experience with electrical engineering/technology in various applications such as low voltage AC and DC systems,

·         Be physically capable of field work and walk-downs,

·         Significant experience with personal computer systems and software, including Microsoft Office,

·         Demonstrated expert communication and organizational skills for presenting complex technical information,

·         Ability to pass Radiological Worker II training,

·         Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a background check and drug screening,

·         Ability to fulfill and promote L&A core values,

·         Ability to work in a diverse work environment,

LOCATION

·         Los Alamos National Lab – Los Alamos, NM,

·         Number of Openings – 5,

·         2–5-year assignment with possibility of conversion,

·         4/10 schedule,

·         Per-diem is offered if non-local,

·         Work is in TA-55 in ALDPI,
