POSITION DESCRIPTION
An experienced quality engineer is being sought to manage the effective implementation of the N3B Quality Assurance Program with emphasis on all associated programmatic elements.  Success requires an expert level understanding of the requirements and experience effectively implementing a NQA-1, Nuclear Quality Assurance program. Contributing significantly to the success of the Mission Assurance organization, coaching and mentoring less experienced QA Engineers and interfacing with senior management and other N3B organizations are key elements of the role.
An ideal candidate:
  • Expert level nuclear quality assurance knowledge and experience (NQA-1 and DOE 414.1D),
  • NQA-1 Audit and surveillance experience. Qualified NQA-1 Lead Auditor is highly desirable,
  • Familiarity with engineering design control and the development of technical specifications; acquisitions strategies; measurement and test equipment; handling, storage, and shipping; control of non-conforming items and software quality assurance,
  • Nuclear waste operations, environmental remediation activities or other High Hazard High Consequence work experience,
  • Continuous improvement experience, including issues management, corrective action and causal analysis,
  • Effective and concise report writing and procedure writing,
  • Excellent time management skills, organized,
  • Flexible and adaptable, a problem solver,
  • High energy, a motivator,
  • Seeks out challenging assignments.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or comparable technical degree and minimum of 7 years of demonstrated and relevant experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working within an NQA-1 based program, DOE O 414.1D (preferred), or program within similar requirements,
  • Experience with oversight of QA program implementation – especially that of DOE Contractors’,
  • Experience leading and supporting audit and surveillance efforts to identify and assess quality issues, deficiencies and potential non-compliances,
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NQA 1 requirements and principles, DOE Order 414.1D, 10 CFR 830, Subpart A and NQA-1 at DOE sites,
  • Proficient communication skills, both written and verbal,
  • Advanced analytical, mathematical and writing skills,
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe,
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks concurrently in a high paced, high-pressure environment,
  • Ability to use independent judgement for determining course of action,
  • Ability to work in a diverse work environment,
  • Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a background check and drug screening.
  • Ability to fulfill and promote L&A core values.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous experience on DOE sites and programs,
  • Leadership / Management experience in a technical position, preferably at nuclear facilities,
  • Knowledge of environmental remediation and waste management projects,
  • Causal Analysis course / experience,
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance.

LOCATION
Los Alamos, New Mexico

Work is performed on site, mostly in an office setting but with frequent visits to the N3B Operational areas.
