POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Objective:
The Reliability Specialist will architect, implement, and institutionalize a comprehensive reliability maintenance program. This role is accountable for transitioning the organization from reactive and fragmented practices to a standardized, data-driven, and sustainable maintenance framework within one year.

Quarter 1: Foundational Assessment & Program Architecture 

Milestones:

  • Conduct a comprehensive diagnostic assessment of the existing preventative maintenance (PM) program, identifying deficiencies, redundancies, and gaps in procedural rigor.
  • Develop a complete asset hierarchy, inclusive of all primary assets and subordinate sub-assets, ensuring alignment with operational criticality.
  • Perform criticality analysis to prioritize assets based on risk, impact, and failure consequence.
  • Identify and define all required preventative maintenance tasks, frequencies, and methodologies for each asset class.
  • Initiate the evaluation, selection, and procurement process for a reliability maintenance software platform.

Deliverables:

  • Formal PM Program Assessment Report with actionable recommendations
  • Fully documented Asset & Sub-Asset Registry
  • Asset Criticality Ranking Matrix
  • Draft Preventative Maintenance Library (tasks, intervals, procedures)
  • Software Requirements Specification and Vendor Evaluation Summary

 

Quarter 2: System Implementation & Process Formalization

Milestones:

  • Finalize and complete procurement and implementation of the selected reliability software platform.
  • Configure system architecture, including asset hierarchy, PM schedules, and data fields.
  • Begin digitization and migration of all PMs, asset data, and maintenance records into the system.
  • Develop standardized work control processes, including work orders, job plans, and documentation protocols.
  • Establish baseline key performance indicators (KPIs) for maintenance effectiveness and reliability.

Deliverables:

  • Fully implemented and operational reliability software system
  • Digitized PM program within the system
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for maintenance workflows
  • KPI Framework
  • Initial system training materials

 

Quarter 3: Optimization, Execution & Cultural Integration

Milestones:

  • Drive program execution, ensuring adherence to PM schedules and work control processes.
  • Perform data analysis to identify trends, failure modes, and optimization opportunities.
  • Refine PM tasks using reliability-centered maintenance principles and real-world performance data.
  • Initiate predictive maintenance strategies (where/if applicable)
  • Begin cross-functional training and mentorship of maintenance and operations personnel.

Deliverables:

  • PM Optimization Report with implemented improvements
  • Reliability Data Dashboards and Trend Analyses
  • Updated and refined PM Library
  • Training sessions conducted with documented attendance
  • Predictive Maintenance Pilot Program (if applicable)

 

Quarter 4: Program Maturation & Sustainability

Milestones:

  • Institutionalize the reliability program as a self-sustaining operational function.
  • Conduct a comprehensive program audit to validate effectiveness, compliance, and maturity.
  • Finalize knowledge transfer, ensuring personnel are fully trained and capable of independent program execution.
  • Establish continuous improvement mechanisms, including feedback loops and periodic reassessments.
  • Demonstrate measurable improvements in reliability and maintenance performance metrics.

Deliverables:

  • Final reliability Maintenance Program Framework and Documentation
  • Program Audit Report with maturity assessment
  • Fully trained and mentored personnel with defined ownership roles
  • Continuous Improvement Plan and Governance Structure

 

End-State Expectation:
By the conclusion of the one-year period, the reliability Specialist will have fully stood up a robust, scalable, and data-driven reliability maintenance program, with embedded processes, trained personnel, and measurable improvements in asset reliability, operational efficiency, and maintenance effectiveness.

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor of science in engineering, construction management, accounting, finance, or business. Additional experience can be considered in lieu of education.  

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience in Reliability Centered Maintenance.
  • Prior experience in a DOE, NNSA, or NRC setting.  
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a “Q” clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
  • Ability to work in a diverse work environment.
  • Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a background check and drug screening in accordance with Federal requirements (details below),
  • Ability to fulfill and promote L&A core values.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Active DOE Q‑level security clearance.
  • CMRP Certification.
  • CRL Certification.
  • RMIC Certification.

LOCATION

  • Centrus Energy – Oak Ridge, TN
  • 100% onsite position.
  • Initial assignment through L&A with possibility of extension and/or conversion.
