POSITION DESCRIPTION
The N3B Mission Assurance team are accountable for implementing an effective CAS through the implementation of contract requirements, DOE Directives, and industry best practices to demonstrate reasonable assurance that N3B management controls are effective, efficient and drive a culture of continuous improvement. CAS achieves this by managing and supporting the implementation of an integrated suite of tools and processes for N3B designed to:
- Measure outcomes, document trends and drive improvement in performance
- Apply an effective framework of oversight and assurance
- Proactively identify issues/deficiencies, mitigate risk and correct problems to prevent recurrence
- Provide the platform for learning and improving
Longenecker & Associates (L&A) seeks a technical subject matter expert, focused on performance and analytics. The CAS Performance & Analytics Specialist will play a pivotal role in elevating N3B's Contractor Assurance System through strategic program leadership, advanced analytics, and continuous improvement, proactively seeking and implementing cutting-edge solutions, including Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML), to optimize processes and deliver measurable business value. Specific responsibilities include:
- Strategic Leadership and Enhancement of the N3B Trend Analysis Program, leveraging AI/ML for predictive insights:
- Drives continuous improvement of the N3B Trend Analysis procedure, ensuring it remains current, effective, and aligned with evolving business needs and industry best practices.
- Explores and implements AI/ML-driven tools and techniques for advanced trend detection, predictive analytics, and anomaly identification within N3B's operational data.
- Leads quarterly trend analysis efforts, proactively identifying, investigating, and reporting on significant trends that impact N3B's operational performance, safety, and compliance, with a focus on AI/ML-augmented insights.
- Optimizes the utilization of the Miramar platform, integrating AI/ML capabilities where feasible for enhanced trend code implementation, data integrity, and analytical capability.
- Establishes and maintains robust data management practices for all trend data
- Elevating N3B Metrics and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) Program for Business Impact, powered by AI/ML-driven efficiency:
- Champions the periodic review and strategic update of the N3B Metrics procedure, ensuring metrics are meaningful, actionable, and contribute directly to business objectives, exploring AI/ML for automated data validation and KPI optimization.
- Conducts in-depth monthly performance reviews of data entry into KPIs for completion, correctness, and compliance with the N3B Metrics procedure. Provides critical, AI/ML-informed insights into performance against targets and potential areas for improvement.
- Proactively manages the lifecycle of N3B KPIs, driving their evolution to meet changing organizational priorities, including the identification of new, AI/ML-derivable metrics.
- Facilitates and leads revision meetings with metric owners, providing expert guidance, constructive feedback, and active support to ensure KPI updates are effective and timely
- Causal Analysis and Problem Solving, enhanced by intelligent systems:
- Performs detailed causal analysis on identified issues and trends, as directed or proactively initiated, to uncover root causes and prevent recurrence, contributing directly to organizational learning and improvement, utilizing AI/ML tools for pattern recognition and hypothesis generation in complex datasets.
- Strategic Contribution and Continuous Improvement, fueled by technological innovation:
- Actively seeks opportunities to apply expertise in support of broader Mission Assurance objectives and continuous improvement initiatives, specifically championing the responsible adoption of emerging technologies, including AI/ML, to drive efficiency, accuracy, and strategic foresight.
- Other Mission Assurance activities as assigned.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
A Bachelor’s degree or 10 years of related experience
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Progressive experience in leading and transforming programs for Trend Analysis, KPI Management, and Performance Improvement, with a track record of driving tangible business value.
- Proven expertise in the design, development, and implementation of robust performance indicator systems and innovative trend analysis methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to strategically leverage and implement advanced analytical techniques, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), to enhance predictive capabilities and program effectiveness.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and innovative thinking skills, with a strong command of data interpretation and mathematical concepts.
- Superior communication skills (technical writing, verbal, and presentation) to effectively engage and influence diverse stakeholders, coupled with strong teamwork and customer support.
- Highly adaptable, flexible, and capable of managing multiple complex tasks concurrently in a dynamic environment.
- Fundamental Proficiencies: Expert-level grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Pre-placement physical examination, which includes drug screening, and inclusion in random drug testing program; and onsite access to Los Alamos National Laboratory
- Demonstrable ability to fulfill and promote L&A core values.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance.
- Ability to work in a diverse work environment.
- Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a background check and drug screening in accordance with Federal requirements (details below),

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience on Department of Energy (DOE) sites and with DOE programs.
- Previous experience with nuclear or highly regulated / high hazard programs including experience with corrective action and Quality Assurance systems
- Experience with and implementation of AI tools
- Experience with cause analyst and or event investigation
- Knowledge of continuous improvement techniques (Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma)
LOCATION
This position is primarily on-site but with the ability to telework intermittently and perform job related activities based on the needs of N3B. It is contingent on ability to gain site access to Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).
N3B is based in Los Alamos Laboratory property and is a multidisciplinary research institution dedicated to enhancing national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.
