Longenecker & Associates (L&A), a woman owned small business, has provided technical and management support to the Nuclear Energy Industry for over 30+ years. We have the immediate need for a Packaging Specialist 1 to contribute to the mission of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). LANL is a multidisciplinary research institution dedicated to enhancing national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to)

The Packaging Specialist 1 will:

·       Ensure safe and compliant packaging and transportation of any and all classes of Nuclear Material; Explosives, other Hazardous Materials; and/or Classified Matter.

·       Develop professional expertise in hazardous material packaging and/or classified packaging and transportation (HMPT) regulations.

·       Support management, disposition, coordination, quality control and storage functions related to Nuclear Material; Explosives, other Hazardous Materials; and/or Classified Matter.

·       Assists more senior level staff in resolving a diverse range of complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.

·       Continually supervise and follow detailed instruction in fulfillment of projects or work assignments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. A basic understanding of applicable safety basis documentation is required (i.e., Documented Safety Requirements (DSAs); Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs); the Transportation Safety Document (TSD); Safety Analysis Reports for Packages (SARPs); and the Explosive Safety Manual).
  2. Experience in interacting effectively with all levels of internal personnel; building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts.
  3. Ability to interact with all levels of management.
  4. Ability to analyze data, and understand organizational disparities, as well as implementing solutions to address such areas.
  5. Ability to work independently.
  6. Strong analytical skills
  7. Proficient communication skills, both written and verbal

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with essential duties.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact constructively with all levels of management, subject matter experts and external agencies.

·       Must have the ability to obtain a Q-level DOE security clearance.

  • Must be a US Citizen.

Education and Experience Required

  • Typically, a minimum of two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A basic understanding of applicable safety basis documentation (i.e., Documented Safety Requirements (DSAs); Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs); the Transportation Safety Document (TSD); Safety Analysis Reports for Packages (SARPs); and the Explosive Safety Manual).
  • Experience working on a DOE site is preferred but not required.

This DOE Order establishes entry-level requirements to ensure employees in the positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
