Longenecker & Associates (L&A), a woman owned small business, has provided technical and management support to the Nuclear Energy Industry for over 30+ years. We have the immediate need for various levels of Engineering Technologists to contribute to the mission of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). LANL is a multidisciplinary research institution dedicated to enhancing national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to)

The Engineering Technologist is expected to:

  • Use the principles and theories of engineering, math and science to solve technical problems within discipline in support of engineering and engineering research.
  • Support engineering/projects in the performance of complex and demanding assignments requiring initiative and independent judgment.
  • Be responsible for assigned activities within an engineering discipline in support of facilities, design, operation, maintenance, project and/or research-based engineering.
  • Provide direction to technicians if necessary.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Utilizes engineering and computer technology to accomplish work.
  • Continuously improves work processes to meet customer needs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Knowledge of and experience working with various software packages such as Calypso and/or PC-DMIS, Pro/E, SOLIDWORKS, or AutoCAD solid model CAD, and Excel
  2. Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in using and interpreting engineering blueprints, sketches, specifications, and related data to assist in inspection development.
  3. Proficient understanding of component and tool design, fixturing, printed circuit boards, schematics, and facility equipment.
  4. Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in metrology and inspections operations.
  5. Understanding of machine shop equipment like a mill, lathe, drill press, welder and inspection equipment.
  6. Understanding of engineering materials and their suitability for component design and manufacture.
  7. Experience in interacting effectively with all levels of internal personnel; building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts.
  8. Ability to interact with all levels of management.
  9. Ability to analyze data, and understand organizational disparities, as well as implementing solutions to address such areas.
  10. Ability to work independently.
  11. Strong analytical skills
  12. Proficient communication skills, both written and verbal

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with essential duties.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact constructively with all levels of management, subject matter experts and external agencies.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a Q-level DOE security clearance.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Education and Experience Required

  • Position typically requires a baccalaureate degree in engineering, engineering technology, or equivalent years of relevant experience in lieu of degree requirement.

  • Position typically requires an associate’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, science, math or related degree; or equivalent years of relevant experience in lieu of degree requirement and at least 2 years experience for Engineering Technologist 1.


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working on a DOE site is preferred but not required.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience preferred for Engineering Technologist 3.
  • Specific certifications are not required but will be considered.
  • ASME certified or demonstrated knowledge and experience working with GD&T and stacks.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of reverse engineering and rapid prototyping.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge associated with production processes related to manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge mathematical formulas, computations, and data gathering methods.
